'The Chairs' at CAMDEN FRINGE

David Brett & Alison Sandford in rehearsals, Aug '11
'The Chairs' was unexpectedly brilliant. Picked at random, this tragic absurdist play by Ionesco had us gripped. The elderly couple, seemingly at the end of the world and teetering on the edge of sanity, were class acts, utterly convincing, even though what was actually happening is obscure. We would jump at the chance to see Atelier Theatre again. The Londonist, August 2011
Huge thanks to TopFoto Gallery, Edenbridge for rehearsal space & printing www.topfotogallery.com
Our two one-act Eugene Ionesco plays 'The Chairs' and 'The Lesson' went down a storm at the Camden Fringe last August. More here... By the end we had sold out and were turning people away.

We acknowledge with gratitude the family and estate of Eugene Ionesco and agent Janet Glass for granting the rights to perform, and of our supporters (including the cast, the crew, the musicians and all their families), the Friends of ACT and our Founder Friends especially, without whom our first production, 'Peer Gynt' in Jan 2011, could never have happened and the Atelier Community Theatre would never have started to fly. See Friends of ACT to find out how to support our work. Thank you.

"You should know that this is the best production of 'Peer Gynt' that I have either seen or read about" Reviewer feedback, January 2011
About us
Atelier Community Theatre is a new local theatre initiative based in Forest Row, East Sussex. This is a continuing process, open to anyone who desires the opportunity to explore their own Self by journeying through the great classic works of theatre. We meet, on average, three evenings a week - when we have a production ahead! We are financed by our own efforts, and the generous support in cash and in kind from members of the Friends of ACT. We firmly support the aims of the "I Value The Arts" campaign launched by the National Campaign for the Arts.
Our inaugural project was Ibsen’s play 'Peer Gynt', directed by Vasile Nedelcu, Romanian theatre director and founder of ACT, which we performed at Chequer Mead Community Arts Centre in East Grinstead, in January 2011.
