        Vasile Nedelcu - biography

Vasile Nedelcu graduated in Stage Directing from the prestigious Bucharest Academy of Theatre and Film, and taught for seven years in the same school, directing in parallel for different professional theatres. In 1995 and 1998 his productions were selected among the best shows of the year at the Romanian National Theatre Festival. He completed his MA in Aesthetics and Art of Theatre in 2001.

He moved to England almost ten years ago and works as a director and teacher. He has directed at The Glasshouse Festival, Stourbridge (Peer Gynt), the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (The Nightingale, Infanta), the Brighton Festival Fringe (What Shall We Do With the Cello?, The Snow Queen, The Nightingale). In 2005 he won Best Family Show at the Brighton Festival Fringe (for his production of The Snow Queen with Taurus Voice). Working for Pericles Work, Training and Therapy, he has directed in Cambridge (Bench) and in Dornach (Pericles, Prince of Tyre).

"In my opinion, Vasile Nedelcu could be considered the champion of Romanian texts of undeniable difficulty, inspirationally staged. These productions assert an authentic artistic vocation and a professional destiny that is worthy of our interest." Ion Parhon, Romania libera, 29.01.2001

For reviews of "Peer Gynt" at Chequer Mead, 2011, the Atelier's first production together, see Reviews page.

Review of Vasile Nedelcu's original 2005 production of Peer Gynt (Glasshouse Festival, Stourbridge):
"The production superbly brings out the brilliance of Ibsen's vision. With Romanian director Vasile Nedelcu at the helm, the show is endlessly inventive" - Birmingham Post

Review for The Snow Queen - winner of best family show at the Brighton Festival 2005
"No tacky tinsel, no pop songs, no cheap jokes, just pure magic. Truly enchanting." Fiona Maddocks, Observer
